My grandmother taught me to crochet slippers when I was 8 years old, and I have been crocheting ever since! Don’t ask me how many crocheted baby blankets each of my children have!

Before I created Little Monkeys Designs, I was often disappointed in the lack of creativity in crochet patterns I bought and especially in the free patterns floating around. The yarn used to create some of the finished items I saw on the market disenchanted me as well.

I set out to create the most distinctive and sustainable crochet patterns and pieces for the most eco-conscious individual/crafter in the world. I wanted my crochet patterns to be easy enough for beginning crocheters, but interesting enough to entice the more advanced crafters as well.

It turns out, the road was more difficult than I imagined.

All-natural yarn fibers are a lot harder to unearth than you could imagine! I wanted to utilize only yarns created from natural, unadulterated sources (wool, alpaca, cotton, linen, hemp, …) in my patterns and gift items.

No synthetic yarns or toxic dyes! If you are going to spend your precious spare moments working on a project or your dollars purchasing a gift, you want it to wash and wear well and last for a lifetime.

Finally, I had success! I found several yarn mills in the USA that create the type of natural fiber yarn I was looking for.

While, you can use whatever yarn you desire with my patterns, I give suggestions on yarns to use to make your finished project look spectacular and be a gift worth giving.

And knowing how hard these natural fiber yarns are to find (not at your local Big box store), I have created DIY Kits (pattern and yarn) to make it easy on my customers.
