Free Crochet Pattern – Granny Square Bookmark

We we’re invited to a lady’s 90th birthday party. The invitation read, “No gifts, please.”
How do you go to such a significant birthday party for a dear, sweet lady, and not bring her something??
I thought for awhile. What do you need at 90 years old? What was something small that I could give her that would fly under the “No gifts, please” radar?

I came up with the idea of a bookmark for her Bible, something she treasured very much. You can never have too many Bible bookmarks. Plus, I knew she liked to read books in general, so a bookmark would be useful and appreciated all the way around.

I had quite a bit of crochet thread, so that was a plus. I needed to create the gift quickly, so it couldn’t be some fancy, take forever pattern!

I created a colorful granny square bookmark first. I liked it, but then thought maybe it would be a little big for her Bible, so I create a second all white, smaller version. I preferred it’s size and simplicity. I couldn’t decide which she would like best, so I gave her both!
